Our Story
How We Got Here
Every good story needs a beginning, and ours started somewhere
ordinary, with a first dinner cooked together over a perfectly normal
stove. What followed was a lot of long conversations, the kind
where you glance at the clock and start doing math about how much
sleep is still technically possible, and a certainty that arrived
embarrassingly early. Within those first weeks it became obvious that
we wanted the same things, at the same speed, for the same reasons.
Everything since has felt less like deciding and more like confirming.
If you've been to an event we're in the middle of (or been drafted
into one), you already know how we operate. It starts the night
before, both of us up past reasonable hours getting things "close
enough," which neither of us believes in. By morning, Garrett is
rearranging furniture that (you thought) was fine where it was and
hanging things from places things were not designed to hang, while
Wyatt is behind the bar with a shaker in one hand and a spreadsheet in
the other, because a cocktail is not a signature cocktail until it has
been fine tuned, named, and assigned a backstory. And somehow, no
matter how much of that gets done, the hour before it starts is a full
sprint, every time. We love a full house, and doing something for
other people is the fastest way we know to feel like ourselves.
That's the through line of our life together. We throw ourselves at
things. Garrett develops and restores property across Huntsville,
cofounded Hatch, a nonprofit, and spends the rest of his week working
for the best dealer in town, because no week of his has ever felt
quite full enough. Wyatt leads engineering teams at a health tech
company in San Francisco and treats every problem, technical or
otherwise, as solvable by tonight. We are both the kind of people
who find an idea and disappear into it for a week, then surface and
corner you with all the details you didn't ask for. Recognizing that in
each other was electric, and it still is. It's the thing that pulls us
together again and again, and we hope you'll see a little of it this
weekend.
We're planning this wedding ourselves, mostly because we figured it was
kinder to spare a professional planner the experience of having us as
clients. We're also planning the honeymoon, drawing up renovation
plans for a house we intend to grow into, and quietly plotting a
second life for some of the tables, chairs, and decor you'll see this
weekend, because neither of us has ever met an idea we didn't want to
try. It's a lot. It's also
exactly how we like it.
Underneath all the motion is something simple. We want a big, loud,
loving family, and we want the people we care about close to us. This
weekend is the first real chapter of that story. Thank you for being
part of it.
With love, Wyatt & Garrett
Growing Our Family
If you know us, you know how much family means to us. It's where we
spend our time, energy, and love, both the family we come from and the
family we've chosen. Building one of our own is what we're most
excited for on the other side of this wedding, and we're building it
through surrogacy.
Instead of a traditional registry, we have a single fund:
Help Grow Our Family.
Every contribution goes directly toward bringing our first children
into the world, and having the people we love help us get there
would mean so much. Of course, having
you at our wedding is already the greatest gift we could ask for.
Nothing here is expected, and no gift is too small.
Thank you for celebrating with us, and for being here as our family's
story begins.
